    Casa Kuschel, located in Puerto Varas, is a significant example of the German architectural influence in southern Chile. Constructed between 1915 and 1917, this historic house reflects the chalet style brought by German settlers to the Llanquihue Lake region. The house was built for Franz Joseph Kuschel Gaber's family and is now used as offices.The building's architecture features a solid stone base, oak-framed structure, and horizontal and vertical planking on the first and second levels, respectively. A notable feature is its Byzantine-inspired dome, topped with a wind rose. The house combines various elements, including Gothic supports, eaves, and Neoclassical window treatments.Casa Kuschel was declared a historical monument in 1992. In the early 1990s, the house was restored, and between 2005 and 2007, it was adapted for office use. Today, Casa Kuschel belongs to the Fundación Pumalín, previously owned by Douglas Tompkins, and houses the Puerto Varas offices of Parque Pumalín. While the interior may not always be open to the public, the exterior and surrounding gardens provide a serene experience.
