Public Bus
From the central square of San Pedro de Atacama, walk to the main bus terminal located just a few blocks away. Look for buses heading to Toconao or the Salar de Atacama. The fare is usually around 2,000 CLP (Chilean Pesos). Board the bus and inform the driver that you want to get off at Laguna Chaxa. The bus ride will take approximately 1 hour. Once you get off, follow the signs or ask locals for directions to Laguna Chaxa, which is a short walk away from the bus stop.
Shared Taxi (Colectivo)
Head to the main street in San Pedro de Atacama where shared taxis, or 'colectivos', wait for passengers. Look for a colectivo heading towards the Salar de Atacama or Laguna Chaxa. The fare is typically around 4,000 CLP per person. Once the colectivo fills up with passengers, it will depart directly to Laguna Chaxa. The travel time is approximately 30-40 minutes. Inform the driver of your destination if they do not already know.
Guided Tour
Many tour operators in San Pedro de Atacama offer guided tours to Laguna Chaxa. You can book a half-day or full-day tour at one of the local agencies. These tours usually include transportation from your accommodation in San Pedro, and they will take you directly to Laguna Chaxa.
