Discover more about Museo de las Telecomunicaciones

The Museo de las Telecomunicaciones (MuT) in Valdivia offers a fascinating journey through the history of communication, showcasing technological advancements from the earliest inventions to the digital age. Housed within the meticulously restored Casa Lüer, a historic building with its own rich past, the museum provides a unique blend of architectural heritage and technological exploration. The Casa Lüer itself is a significant piece of Valdivian history. Constructed between 1890 and 1900 by German immigrants Alberto Lüer and Julia Czischke, it served as their family home for over 60 years. Later, it became the headquarters of the Valdivia Basketball Association. In 1997, when the Calle-Calle Bridge was expanded, the house was slated for demolition. Fortunately, historian Gabriel Guarda Geywitz intervened, ensuring its preservation. After years of storage, Telefónica del Sur funded its reconstruction in 2019, transforming it into the Museo de las Telecomunicaciones. The museum's exhibits invite visitors to reflect on how telecommunications influence relationships, particularly for those in southern Chile. The collection includes artifacts from eras without electricity, telegraphs, telephones, and displays about satellite communication and the internet. Interactive exhibits, such as a replica of a telephone exchange, bring the history to life. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, workshops, and events. Open from Tuesday to Sunday, the museum offers guided tours and welcomes visitors of all ages. It provides a comprehensive look at the evolution of telecommunications and its impact on society.
