Getting there

Car

From Settlement, drive south on Gaze Road, then turn onto North South Baseline Road. Follow this road for approximately 30 minutes. Look for the sign to Greta Beach. A 4WD vehicle is recommended. Parking is available near the trailhead. From the car park, it's a short 300m walk to the top of the cliff, followed by a descent down a steep staircase to the beach. Car rentals are available at the airport, but booking in advance is essential. Expect to pay around $50-$80 AUD per day for a rental car.

Taxi

Taxis are available on Christmas Island, but service is limited. Contact Crabby Transport (+61 (0) 439 215 644) to book a ride. A taxi from Settlement to Greta Beach will cost approximately $30-$40 AUD. Confirm the price before starting your journey.

Greta Beach is a hidden gem on Christmas Island, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and tranquility. This secluded paradise is known for its shimmering turquoise waters and pristine sandy shores. The beach provides refuge for turtles throughout the year, hosting a constant nesting cycle. During the annual red crab migration, the beach becomes a bustling spawning ground for these crustaceans.While beautiful, Greta Beach is also known to accumulate plastic flotsam and jetsam carried ashore by ocean currents. Visitors are encouraged to participate in beach clean-up efforts to help preserve the ecosystem and protect nesting turtles. Despite the debris, the beach offers a dreamy ocean pool during the right tides and dramatic cliff faces.To reach Greta Beach, a short walk from the car park is followed by a descent down a steep staircase perched atop a seaside cliff.
