The Parroquia Nuestra Señora Del Carmen, located on Guatapé's main square, stands as a testament to the town's rich cultural and religious heritage. Construction on the church began in 1865, with the first stage inaugurated two years later, coinciding with the town's establishment as a municipality. However, it took approximately 70 years to fully complete the structure. The church's architecture showcases a Greco-Roman style, characterized by grand arches and circular bevels adorning the columns. The facade features rhomboid zócalos (decorated panels) at the base and the fleur-de-lis symbol, representing purity, loyalty, and sacrifice, at the top. Inside, a Greco-Roman style choir and the Virgin del Carmen's shield are complemented by altars and images replicating Byzantine art. The church also features a French Louis XIV style clock, added in 1930, with Roman numerals. Throughout the year, the Parroquia Nuestra Señora Del Carmen remains a focal point for community events and religious celebrations. The church is not only a place of worship but also a significant tourist attraction, inviting visitors to appreciate its serene atmosphere and architectural beauty.
