Driving
From Aspen, drive east on Highway 82 (Independence Pass Road) for approximately 9 miles. The Grottos Day Use Area is located on the right side of the highway, just past Weller Campground. Turn into the marked entrance and drive about 200 feet to the parking area. Parking is free. Be aware that Independence Pass is typically closed during the winter months (usually from November to May), so access is limited during that time.
Public Transport
While there is no direct public transportation to the Grottos Day Use Area, you can take the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA) bus from Aspen towards Independence Pass [RFTA Website]. Get off at the Weller Campground stop and walk approximately 0.9 miles east along Highway 82 to the Grottos entrance. Exercise caution as you walk along the highway. RFTA bus fare is around $3 for a single ride within the Aspen zone.
