    Discover more about Second Flatiron

The Second Flatiron, nestled in Boulder's iconic Flatirons range, stands as a testament to the geological wonders of the Colorado Front Range. Formed millions of years ago from conglomeratic sandstone of the Fountain Formation, these formations were lifted and tilted during the Laramide Orogeny, creating the dramatic, slanted slabs we see today. The name 'Flatirons' is believed to have originated from their resemblance to old-fashioned clothes irons used by pioneer women. Hiking or climbing the Second Flatiron offers an immersive experience in nature. The trails wind through diverse terrain, from meadows and forests to rocky scree fields. As you ascend, the views become increasingly breathtaking, encompassing the city of Boulder, the rolling plains to the east, and the majestic peaks of the Indian Peaks Wilderness to the west. The summit provides a unique vantage point to appreciate the scale and beauty of the surrounding landscape. While the First and Third Flatirons often steal the spotlight, the Second Flatiron holds its own with classic scrambles and climbing routes. Whether you're a seasoned climber or a novice hiker, the Second Flatiron promises an unforgettable adventure in one of Colorado's most scenic settings.
