Founded in 1859, the church's roots trace back to the Auraria and Denver City Methodist Episcopal Mission. The current structure, completed in 1888, was designed by Robert S. Roeschlaub, Colorado's first licensed architect, and is considered by many to be his finest work. The church's exterior is crafted from Castle Rock rhyolite, a volcanic stone, accented by Utah sandstone trim. Its impressive 181-foot steeple was once one of the tallest stone towers in the country. The Gothic design features a triple-arched entry and tall, pointed windows, with many elements arranged in groups of three, symbolizing the Holy Trinity. Inside, the sanctuary resembles a theater, seating up to 1,300 people. A highlight is the 4,202-pipe Roosevelt organ, one of only a few remaining in the country. The stained-glass windows, mostly crafted by Healy and Millet of Chicago, are particularly noteworthy, with the "Resurrection" window at the rear balcony being a prime example of stained glass artistry. Today, Trinity United Methodist Church continues to be an active place of worship and a cultural hub, hosting various events, including the popular Candlelight Concert series.
