Discover more about Wynkoop Brewing Company

The Wynkoop Brewing Company isn't just a brewpub; it's a Denver institution steeped in history. Founded in 1988 by John Hickenlooper (later Denver's mayor and Colorado's governor) and his partners, it holds the distinction of being Denver's first brewpub. Located in the heart of LoDo (Lower Downtown), the Wynkoop occupies the historic J.S. Brown Mercantile Building, dating back to 1899. The J.S. Brown Mercantile Building itself has a rich past, having served as a wholesale grocery business that supported miners, brewers, and grocers since 1861. Its strategic location near Union Station and the rail lines made it a vital commercial hub. The building features original pressed-tin ceilings, hardwood floors, and a sturdy brick and sandstone foundation. Wynkoop helped catalyze the revitalization of LoDo, transforming it from a neglected area into a thriving neighborhood. The brewpub offers a wide array of handcrafted beers brewed on-site, along with a menu of hearty pub fare. Beyond the beer and food, Wynkoop features live comedy and a BCA-sanctioned billiards parlor with 17 tables. The brewery has earned numerous awards, including five World Beer Cup Awards and 19 medals from the Great American Beer Festival. While public tours are currently unavailable, private group tours can be arranged to see behind the scenes. Wynkoop remains a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, offering a taste of Denver's history and craft beer culture.
