The mountain's name was changed in 2023 to honor the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes.

Local tips
- Reservations are required to park at the developed sites (Mount Goliath, Summit Lake, and the Summit) and can be made up to 30 days in advance.
- Be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions, including wind, rain, snow, and intense sunlight, even in summer.
- Acclimatize to the altitude by making frequent stops along the way to avoid altitude sickness.
- Bring warm clothing, sunscreen, and plenty of water, as the summit is exposed and the air is thin.
- Check road conditions and closures before you go, especially during the shoulder seasons (late spring and early fall).

Driving
The primary access to Mount Blue Sky is via the Mount Blue Sky Scenic Byway (Highway 5), which branches off from Highway 103 near Echo Lake. From Denver, take I-70 west to Exit 240 (Idaho Springs). Follow Highway 103 south for approximately 14 miles to Echo Lake. Then, turn onto Highway 5 and proceed to the summit. Note that a timed-entry reservation is required to enter the Mount Blue Sky Recreation Area. As of September 2024, Highway 5 is closed for construction through 2025, with reopening planned for Memorial Day weekend 2026. Check www.mtblueskyproject.com for updates.
