Walking
From the center of Canon City, head east on Main Street. Continue until you reach 4th Street, then turn left. Walk north on 4th Street for about 1 mile until you reach the intersection with Royal Gorge Boulevard (Highway 50). Cross the street and continue walking north on 4th Street, which becomes the Royal Gorge Route Railroad path. Follow this path out of town for approximately 2 miles until you see signs indicating the Oil Well Flats Trail System.

Biking
Start at the Canon City Visitor Center located at 620 Main Street. Rent a bike if you haven't already. Head east on Main Street, then take a left on 4th Street. Continue on 4th Street until you reach Royal Gorge Boulevard (Highway 50). Turn right and bike north on the shoulder of the highway for about 2 miles. You will see signs for the Oil Well Flats Trail System. Follow the signs and bike towards the trailhead.

Take the local bus service from Canon City. Board the bus at the nearest stop to your location, and request a stop at the Royal Gorge Route Railroad station. From there, you can walk north along the railroad tracks for about 2 miles, where you will find signage directing you to the Oil Well Flats Trail System.
