Discover more about The Winery At Holy Cross Abbey

The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey, located in Cañon City, Colorado, offers a unique blend of history, scenery, and award-winning wines. The winery is situated on the grounds of the historic Holy Cross Abbey, founded in 1886 by Benedictine monks who came from Pennsylvania. Initially, the monks opened a boarding school and made attempts at establishing a winery. However, these efforts didn't come to fruition at that time. In 2000, as the Abbey sought new means of financial income, the monks returned to the idea of establishing a vineyard. They entrusted production to a professional viticulturist, and the winery and tasting room opened to the public in 2002. Although the monks have since moved on, the Abbey grounds remain an idyllic location to sip wine. The winery has been attracting visitors from Colorado and all over the world since July 2002. Today, The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey produces around 13,000 cases of wine annually. While some grapes are grown locally, others are sourced from other parts of Colorado and California. The winery is known for its merlots and rieslings, but offers a diverse portfolio to suit every palate. Visitors can enjoy a tasting flight in the tasting room, or opt for a VIP wine and cheese tasting experience. The winery also hosts an annual Harvest Festival in late September, featuring live music, food vendors, and local artisans. This celebration includes the crushing of community grapes for the popular Wild Cañon Harvest wine, traditionally released the week of Thanksgiving.
