    Discover more about Aspen

Aspen, Colorado, nestled in the Roaring Fork Valley, is more than just a ski town; it's a destination steeped in history and brimming with natural beauty. Originally named Ute City, Aspen was founded in 1879 during the Colorado Silver Boom, attracting miners and prospectors seeking their fortune. The town was later renamed Aspen in 1880, after the abundance of aspen trees in the area. By the late 1880s, Aspen had transformed from a small mining camp into a thriving town with over 12,000 residents. The silver boom came to an end in 1893, impacting Aspen's economy and causing the population to dwindle. After World War II, Aspen experienced a resurgence thanks to the vision of Walter Paepcke and Friedl Pfeifer, who established the Aspen Skiing Company in 1946. This marked the beginning of Aspen's transformation into a world-class ski resort, attracting celebrities, athletes, and visitors from around the globe. Paepcke also founded the Aspen Institute, further solidifying Aspen's reputation as a cultural and intellectual center. Today, Aspen offers a diverse range of activities and attractions. In the winter, visitors can enjoy skiing and snowboarding on four mountains: Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk, and Snowmass. In the summer, the slopes transform into meadows of wildflowers, perfect for hiking, mountain biking, and sightseeing. The Maroon Bells, two iconic peaks just outside of Aspen, are a must-see for their breathtaking scenery. Aspen's vibrant downtown area is home to luxury boutiques, art galleries, and world-class restaurants. The town also hosts numerous cultural events throughout the year, including the Aspen Music Festival and School and Jazz Aspen Snowmass.
