Discover more about Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art

The Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art, situated in Denver's Golden Triangle Creative District, provides a unique and immersive experience for art and design enthusiasts. The museum's collection spans approximately 150 years, showcasing international decorative art, Colorado and regional art, and a retrospective of Colorado's distinguished painter, Vance Kirkland. The museum's three collections are displayed together in a salon style, encouraging visitors to make visual and thematic connections. This approach allows for a richer understanding of the historical significance and artistic expressions on display. The museum houses over 30,000 works by more than 1,500 artists and designers, with about 4,400 pieces on display at any given time. Vance Kirkland's studio and art school building (1910-1911) is preserved as part of the museum and is the oldest commercial art building in Denver. Designed in the Arts & Crafts style, the building adds to the museum's unique atmosphere. The museum's new building, designed by Jim Olson, features a vibrant facade inspired by the art and craft within. Luminous terracotta bars in yellow hues, glass baguettes backed in gold, and vitrines displaying select objects create an engaging exterior. In May 2024, the Kirkland Museum merged with the Denver Art Museum. As of October 1, 2024, one ticket or membership grants access to both Kirkland and the Denver Art Museum. The agreement ensures that the Kirkland Collection will continue to be displayed in The Kirkland's unique display style using vignettes in the Jim Olson Building on Bannock Street.
