Discover more about Macky Auditorium Concert Hall

Macky Auditorium Concert Hall, completed in 1922, stands as a testament to Boulder's vibrant cultural scene and the enduring legacy of its benefactors. Andrew J. Macky, a Boulder pioneer and gold rush settler, bequeathed $300,000 to the University of Colorado for the construction of an auditorium. His gift, inspired by a desire to uplift the university and its community, led to the creation of this magnificent Neo-Gothic structure. The auditorium's architecture is a blend of styles, incorporating elements chosen by CU's President at the turn of the 20th century. The primary materials are sandstone and red tile, harmonizing with the overall campus aesthetic. However, Macky Auditorium distinguishes itself with its two massive towers, sprawling ivy, and intricate detailing. Inside, the concert hall boasts exceptional acoustics, making it a premier venue for a wide array of performances. Throughout its history, Macky Auditorium has hosted many famous figures, including Eleanor Roosevelt, the Dalai Lama, Yo-Yo Ma, Jane Goodall, Robin Williams, and Neil deGrasse Tyson. It serves as a home for the CU College of Music's Band, Orchestra, Opera, and Jazz programs, as well as the CU Presents Artist Series. The auditorium also welcomes the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, Boulder Ballet, and other local and national organizations. Macky Auditorium continues to be a versatile venue that entertains, educates, and inspires audiences.
