    From Longmont, head north on 55th Street for several miles. The parking lot for Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain will be on your left. Parking is free, but the lot can fill up quickly during peak times. Additional parking may be available along the road. There are 38 car parking spots, 3 ADA spots and 4 horse trailer parking spots. Limited viewing is available from the parking lot for disabled access.

  • Public Transport

    From the Longmont Transit Center, you can take a local taxi or rideshare service to reach the preserve at 15140 N 55th St, Longmont, CO 80503. Alternatively, from Estes Park, take the 'Estes Park Shuttle' towards Lyons from the Estes Park Visitor Center. Transfer to the 'Lyons to Longmont' bus service. Ask the driver to let you off at the stop closest to 55th St. Walk north on 55th St for about 0.5 miles to the entrance. Bus fares vary. Check the RTD website for the most up-to-date information.

The Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain Open Space, located a short drive from Longmont, Colorado, provides a serene natural escape with captivating landscapes. This 1,500-acre preserve sits at the easternmost point of the Boulder County foothills and is rich with human history, geological features, and diverse plant and animal life. The preserve offers three well-maintained trails: the easy 2.2-mile Indian Mesa Trail, and the moderate Eagle Wind Trail (2.5 miles) and Little Thompson Overlook Trail (1.5 miles). These trails offer panoramic views of the Front Range and surrounding plains. Wildlife enthusiasts can spot mule deer, prairie dogs, raptors, and various bird species. The area's unique habitat also makes it a prime location for birdwatching, with species like Bushtit and Common Poorwill. Rabbit Mountain has a rich history, serving as a winter site for the Arapaho Native Americans and later attracting homesteaders in the 19th century. The land was acquired by Boulder County in 1984 to preserve its natural state. In 2016, it was renamed the Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain to honor Ron Stewart, the retiring Boulder Parks and Open Space Director.
