Parking is free, but the lot can fill up quickly, especially on weekends, so consider arriving early.

This 839-acre natural area preserves a unique transition zone, characterized by native grasses, shrubs, and small trees. Established through several land acquisitions starting in 1994, Coyote Ridge opened to the public in 2000. In 2001, the City of Fort Collins acquired the historic Nix Farm, now home to the Department of Natural Areas offices and educational activities. The area boasts 4.1 miles of natural surface trails, with an elevation gain of approximately 600 feet, providing stunning views of the Front Range and eastern plains. The main Coyote Ridge Trail connects to the Rimrock Open Space and the Blue Sky Trail, popular among hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. Keep an eye out for mule deer, coyotes, and various bird species, as well as occasional sightings of mountain lions, bears, and rattlesnakes. Visitors can explore the Hidden Clues Trail, a wheelchair-accessible, interpretive loop that offers an interactive experience for all ages.
