Twin Silo Park: A Modern Ode to Fort Collins' Agricultural Roots

Twin Silo Park, a 54-acre community park in Fort Collins, Colorado, stands as a vibrant tribute to the city's agricultural past while offering a modern recreational space for all. Opened in November 2017, the park's design thoughtfully incorporates elements that honor the region's farming heritage. The park's most distinctive features are the two towering silos, standing at 48-feet tall, which have been repurposed into a unique playground structure. These silos, salvaged from a nearby road-widening project, have been retrofitted with a spiral staircase and the tallest slide in Fort Collins, providing an exciting and interactive play experience. The park also includes a smaller, conventional playground for younger children. Beyond the silos, Twin Silo Park offers a wide array of amenities. Visitors can explore community gardens, recreational trails, an orchard, a BMX park, and pickleball courts. A dog park provides a dedicated space for furry friends, and the park also features a unique vertical grow wall. McClelland's Creek, which runs through the park, has been rehabilitated to create a natural water play area. The park's design also includes a barn-like structure that provides shade and shelter. The land on which Twin Silo Park sits was once part of the Webster Farm, adding another layer of historical significance to the site. The park's design incorporates native grasses and landscapes, emphasizing the community's connection to nature. Twin Silo Park has received several awards for its innovative design and community impact, including an Honor Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects.
