Hamill, who made his fortune through the Dives-Pelican and Terrible mines, transformed the original Gothic-style cottage into a lavish estate.The meticulously restored home features period furnishings, intricate walnut woodwork, gas lighting, and central heating, offering visitors an immersive experience of Victorian-era living. The property also includes a carriage house, a granite office building, a laundry/summer kitchen, and even a six-seater outhouse, providing a comprehensive view of 19th-century residential life. The Georgetown Society acquired the house in 1971 and has expertly maintained it as a museum.Visitors can explore the solarium, admire the metal fountain, and learn about the Hamill family's impact on Georgetown's history. The museum not only showcases the architecture and decor but also interprets the social and cultural lifestyles of the time. Though unconfirmed, local lore connects actor Mark Hamill to the house, as he is rumored to be William Arthur Hamill's three-times great-grandson.
