Turquoise Lake: A Natural Gem in Leadville

Getting There

• Walking

  Start at the Leadville Visitor Center located at 809 Harrison Ave. From there, head west along Harrison Ave until you reach 6th St. Turn left on 6th St and continue south until you reach the intersection with E. Pine St. Turn right on E. Pine St and follow it as it becomes CR 2. Continue on CR 2 for about 2 miles until you reach the Turquoise Lake Recreation Area entrance on your right.

• Biking

  Begin at the Leadville Visitor Center at 809 Harrison Ave. Head west on Harrison Ave and turn left onto 6th St. Continue south to E. Pine St and turn right. Follow E. Pine St which becomes CR 2. The route is approximately 2 miles. Be mindful of other cyclists and pedestrians in the area as you approach the Turquoise Lake Recreation Area entrance.

• Public Transport (if available)

  Check local bus schedules for any routes that may take you towards Turquoise Lake. Currently, public transport options may be limited, so verify with the Leadville Visitor Center for the latest information on any shuttles or services that may be operating towards the lake during your visit.

• Hiking

  If you're up for a longer trek, you can hike from Leadville to Turquoise Lake. Starting from the Leadville Visitor Center, take the same route as for walking, but instead of following the road, look for trails that parallel CR 2. Ensure you have a map or GPS device since some trails may not be clearly marked. It's a scenic hike, but be prepared for varying terrain.
