Getting There

  • Walking

    From downtown Montrose, head south on Cascade Avenue, then turn left onto Main Street. Continue east for approximately 0.6 miles, then turn left onto Rio Grande Avenue. Follow Rio Grande Avenue for about a mile, then turn right onto Apollo Road. The park entrance will be on your left in about 0.3 miles. This walk is roughly 2 miles and should take about 40 minutes.

  • Driving

    From Montrose Regional Airport, head east on Airport Road, then turn left onto Highway 50. Continue on Highway 50 until you reach the intersection with Rio Grande Avenue. Turn south onto Rio Grande Avenue and follow it for approximately 1.5 miles. Turn right onto Apollo Road, and the park entrance will be on your left in about 0.3 miles. Parking is free and plentiful within the park.

  • Public Transport

    The Montrose City Market Bus Route has a stop near Riverbottom Park. From the City Market, transfer to the Connect Trail, and follow the trail for about 1.5 miles to the park. Check the local bus schedule for times and availability. A single ride fare is $1.25.

The Montrose Water Sports Park, located within Riverbottom Park, features six drop structures and ADA-accessible ramps, making it suitable for everyone from casual waders to expert kayakers. Consistent river flows, sustained by irrigation water, ensure excellent conditions for water activities throughout the late summer. The Water Sports Park is also becoming a popular destination for river surfing. Beyond the river, Riverbottom Park boasts an extensive network of concrete and soft-surface trails perfect for walking, jogging, and cycling. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy ball fields, a disc golf course, and a skate park. For those seeking relaxation, the park offers picnic areas, playgrounds, and terraced spectator areas along the river. Riverbottom Park also hosts the Montrose Rotary Amphitheater, a venue for numerous events throughout the year. The park is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.. In 2013, a $259,384 grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) helped create the Montrose Water Sports Park. In 2015, the Water Sports Park was completed. In 1995, the City Council named the park to honor Clifford E. Baldridge, who was a manager and part owner of the Montrose City Market and was actively involved with the Montrose community for over 50 years.
