Getting There

  • Walking

    Start at the center of Monument, specifically at the Monument Town Hall. Head south on Second Street. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Highway 105. Turn left onto Highway 105, heading east. Follow the highway for about 3 miles until you reach the intersection with I-25. Cross over I-25 and continue straight onto the road leading to the Santa Fe Trail. Follow the Santa Fe Trail for about 2.5 miles until you reach the entrance to the Palmer Lake Trailhead. From here, you will need to hike the Palmer Lake Trail, which leads you towards the foothills. Continue on this trail for approximately 5 miles, and then follow the signs directing you toward Flagstaff Mountain. The last stretch will require some elevation gain, so be prepared for a more strenuous hike. After about 1 mile of hiking, you will arrive at Flagstaff Mountain.

    Begin your journey at the Monument Town Hall. From there, take the Santa Fe Trail heading south. Follow the trail for about 2 miles until you reach the intersection of Highway 105. Continue straight onto the Santa Fe Trail, which will eventually lead you through the scenic routes of Palmer Lake. After approximately 5 miles, you will reach the Palmer Lake Trailhead. From here, you can hop onto the Palmer Lake Trail, which will take you toward Flagstaff Mountain. This will be a combination of biking and hiking, with an approximate distance of 6 miles to reach your destination.
