Encompassing 5,121 acres, the park's landscape ranges from rolling grasslands and spring-fed meadows to dense conifer and aspen forests, all set against the backdrop of impressive Pikes Peak granite formations. Originally a Ute hunting ground, the area saw an influx of settlers during the Pikes Peak and Cripple Creek gold rushes. W.E. The park's diverse habitats support abundant wildlife, including elk, mule deer, black bears, and various bird species. Visitors can explore over 55 miles of trails suitable for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. In winter, the park transforms into a snowy playground for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and sledding. Camping is available year-round, with a mix of basic, electric, and walk-in sites, as well as three furnished cabins. The Visitor Center offers information, interactive displays, and trail maps. Keep in mind that pets are welcome in the campgrounds and picnic areas, but not on the trails or in the backcountry.
