Getting There

  • Driving

    From Breckenridge, drive south on CO-9 for 2 miles. Turn right onto Spruce Creek Road and continue for approximately 1 mile. Stay right up a hill before turning left at an intersection. Continue another mile to reach the obvious 2WD trailhead at 10,400'. High-clearance 4x4 vehicles can make it up to Lower Crystal Lake. Parking at the trailhead is free.

    From Frisco, you can take the bus to Breckenridge. From the Breckenridge Station, you can take the local bus to the base of the Spruce Creek Road. From there, you will need to walk or take a taxi/rideshare to the trailhead. Bus fares vary depending on the route, check the Summit Stage website for current pricing.

Reaching an elevation of 13,860 feet, this peak is a popular destination for hikers seeking panoramic views and a challenging climb. The standard route to the summit begins at the Spruce Creek Trailhead near Breckenridge. The initial ascent follows a 4x4 road, passing through dense forests and alongside cascading waterfalls. As hikers gain elevation, the landscape transitions to open alpine terrain, offering breathtaking vistas of the surrounding Tenmile Range. Near Lower Crystal Lake, the trail narrows and steepens, leading to the Crystal-Peak 10 saddle. From there, a final push up the northeast ridge leads to the summit, where hikers are rewarded with 360-degree views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. The area is also known for its mineral deposits, particularly amazonite and smoky quartz, attracting rockhounding enthusiasts.
