Discover more about Tenmile Peak

Tenmile Peak, standing at 12,938 feet (3,944 m), is a prominent mountain summit in Summit County, Colorado. It is part of the Tenmile Range, a subrange of the Rocky Mountains. Located approximately three miles southwest of Frisco, the peak is set within the Arapaho National Forest. The mountain's name has been officially recognized since at least 1906. The Tenmile Range itself got its name from Tenmile Creek, likely named because it is about 10 miles from the confluence to the head of the waterway. The area has a rich mining history, with districts like Breckenridge, Climax, and Frisco emerging in the 1850s to harvest gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, and molybdenum. The Continental Divide Trail traverses the east slope of Tenmile Peak, while Interstate 70 runs along its western base, making it easily accessible. The peak offers significant topographic relief, rising 3,340 feet above Tenmile Creek in just one mile. Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains into Tenmile Creek and Miners Creek, both of which flow into Dillon Reservoir. While the hike to the summit is considered challenging, it rewards adventurers with breathtaking views of Dillon Reservoir, the Gore Range, and the surrounding Tenmile Range. The mountain's slopes and ridges provide a diverse alpine environment, attracting hikers and climbers seeking a rewarding experience in the Colorado Rockies.
