Getting There

  • Walking

    From Frisco's Main Street, head south on Second Avenue. Follow Second Avenue until it crosses the paved recreation path, then continue to the gravel parking lot at the Mount Royal trailhead. From the parking lot, take the connector trail to the Mount Royal Trail. Follow the Mount Royal Trail, veering left at intersections, towards Mount Victoria and Peak 1. The Peak 1 trail continues from the summit of Mount Royal. Note: Parking at the Mount Royal trailhead can be limited, especially during peak season. Consider using the free Summit Stage bus to reach Frisco and avoid parking hassles.

  • Public Transport

    Take the Bustang West Line from Denver to Frisco. From the Frisco Transfer Center, walk south on Main Street, then turn onto Second Avenue. Follow the walking directions to the Mount Royal trailhead. Alternatively, use the Summit Stage free bus service to reach the Frisco Transfer Center or the Community Center stop, which is closer to the trailhead. Check the Summit Stage schedule for routes and times. Cost (Bustang): Denver to Frisco is approximately $12-20. Summit Stage: Free.

Tenmile Range Peak 1, rising to 12,805 feet (3,903 m), marks the beginning of the Tenmile Range, a striking subrange of the Rocky Mountains in Summit County, Colorado. Located just 2.5 miles south of Frisco, this prominent peak is a familiar landmark, inspiring locals and visitors alike with its rugged beauty. The hike to the summit is a demanding climb, gaining over 3,600 feet in a little over 3 miles. The trail begins in a dense forest, passing remnants of old mining operations and the ghost town of Masonville, a testament to the area's rich history. As you ascend, the trees gradually give way to exposed ridgelines and rocky terrain, offering breathtaking views of Buffalo Mountain, Red Peak, and the Gore Range. The final stretch to the summit involves a non-technical scramble over loose scree and boulders, requiring careful footing and an awareness of falling rocks. Upon reaching the top, hikers are rewarded with a 360-degree panorama of Summit County, including Dillon Reservoir, the Tenmile Range, and the distant Grays and Torreys peaks. Mountain goats are sometimes spotted near the summit, adding to the alpine experience. While the official name is Peak One, it has also been known as "Peak 1", "Peak Number One", and "Melzer Peak".
