Discover more about Downtown Cabaret Theatre

The Downtown Cabaret Theatre, a cornerstone of Bridgeport's cultural scene, has been entertaining audiences since 1976. Founded as an extension of the Sacred Heart University Cabaret, the theatre quickly became a professional resident company, deemed essential for the development of the downtown area. Located in a converted YWCA assembly room at 263 Golden Hill Street, the theatre offers a unique and intimate cabaret-style experience, where patrons are encouraged to bring their own picnics to enjoy during the show. This relaxed atmosphere, combined with high-quality musical productions, has made the Cabaret a beloved destination for over half a million adults and children. The Cabaret presents a year-round season of musical theatre, drawing talent from both Connecticut and New York. Its programming includes Broadway-style musicals, original works, a concert series, and an award-winning children's theatre. The theatre has been a launching pad for many artists and continues to nurture emerging talent. In 1995, the Cabaret underwent a $1.3 million renovation, which included the construction of a fly house, remodeling of the backstage and lobby areas, and upgrades to lighting and sound equipment. Today, the theatre seats 290 people and remains an important regional theatre and cultural resource.
