Walking
If you are in central Greenwich, head towards the Greenwich Train Station. From the station, exit onto Railroad Avenue and walk east towards East Putnam Avenue (Route 1). Once you reach East Putnam Avenue, turn left and walk northeast. Continue walking along East Putnam Avenue for about 0.5 miles. You will see Putnam Cottage on your right at 243 E Putnam Ave. It is a short walk, and you will pass several shops and cafes along the way.

From the Greenwich Train Station, take the Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line towards New Haven. Get off at the Old Greenwich station (just one stop). Once you exit the station, turn left on Sound Beach Avenue. Walk along Sound Beach Avenue until it intersects with East Putnam Avenue (Route 1). Turn left on East Putnam Avenue and walk about 0.3 miles to reach Putnam Cottage at 243 E Putnam Ave. This is an easy route with sidewalks available.

If you have access to a bicycle, you can start from the center of Greenwich. Head towards the Greenwich Avenue and follow the bike lanes to East Putnam Avenue. Once you reach East Putnam Avenue, head east towards Putnam Cottage, which is approximately 1 mile away. You will find bike lanes along East Putnam Avenue, making it a safe route to the cottage.
