Discover more about Neir's Tavern

Step back in time at Neir's Tavern, a true New York City institution with a history stretching back to 1829. Located in the Woodhaven neighborhood of Queens, Neir's has served as a community hub for generations. Originally named The Blue Pump Room, it catered to patrons of the nearby Union Course Racetrack, a popular horse racing venue in the 19th century. Over the years, Neir's has evolved, bearing witness to the changing face of New York City. It is said that a young Mae West graced its stage with early performances, and the tavern even played a role in cinematic history, serving as a filming location for scenes in the iconic movie Goodfellas. The tavern has been known under various names, including The Old Abbey and Neir's Social Hall. Louis Neir purchased the tavern in 1898, adding a ballroom and bowling alley. Neir's nearly faced closure in 2009, but was saved by new ownership who revitalized the space, restoring its historic mahogany bar and adding a kitchen. Today, Neir's Tavern offers a cozy and inviting atmosphere where visitors can enjoy classic American fare, a wide selection of drinks, and a taste of old New York charm. It remains a beloved neighborhood spot, offering a casual and friendly environment for all.
