Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from the main entrance of Arenal Volcano National Park. Head southeast on Route 142 towards La Fortuna. Continue on Route 142 until you reach the intersection with Route 6. Turn right onto Route 6 and continue for approximately 20 km. You will pass through small towns and beautiful landscapes. After about 20 km, look for signs indicating 'Catarata Río Celeste' and take a left onto Route 235, which leads you directly to the entrance of the park. There is a small entrance fee (around $12 per person) to access the hiking trails that lead to the waterfall.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from La Fortuna to San José, which typically stops at various locations including near the entrance to Arenal Volcano National Park. Confirm with the bus company that they will stop at the Route 235 intersection. Once you arrive, you may need to take a taxi or arrange for a shuttle service to reach Catarata Río Celeste. The bus fare is approximately $5, and taxi fares will vary depending on the distance, so confirm the price before starting your journey.

• Hiking

  Once you arrive at the entrance of Catarata Río Celeste, be prepared for a short hike (about 1-2 kilometers) through the lush rainforest. The trails are well-marked, but ensure you wear comfortable shoes as the terrain can be uneven and muddy. The hike typically takes about 30-45 minutes, and you will encounter stunning views and diverse wildlife along the way. Make sure to bring water and snacks, as there are no facilities along the trail.
