Getting There

Driving
From San José, take the Pan-American Highway towards Alajuela. Follow signs for Poás Volcano National Park, about a 1.5-hour drive. The road is paved but can be narrow and winding. Input 'Poás Volcano Parking Lot' or 'Parque Nacional Volcan Poas' into your GPS. Parking costs 2,000 colones for light vehicles. Be aware that traffic can be heavy, especially during rush hour.

Public Transport
From San José, take the TUASA bus to Alajuela from 'Iglesia Parque de la Merced'. The bus costs around 1500 CRC round trip. In Alajuela, walk 200 meters south to the Prospero Fernandez park near the cemetery and take the COOPETRANSI bus directly to the national park. This bus runs on weekends only, departing at 9:00 AM and returning at 2:00 PM. The round trip fare is approximately 4000 CRC. Pre-booked tickets are required to board the bus.

Taxis are available from both San José and Alajuela. A taxi from Alajuela to Poás Volcano costs approximately 16,000 colones each way. From San José, the fare is around 27,000 colones each way. Ensure the driver is aware of the park's location and agree on the fare beforehand.
