Getting There

  • Driving

    If driving from La Fortuna, head west on Route 142. Tabacon Hot Springs is approximately 15 minutes from downtown La Fortuna. The hot springs are located on the left, past the Tabacon Thermal Resort & Spa. Parking is free for day pass visitors in a designated lot across the street from the entrance. Guests of the Tabacon Thermal Resort & Spa receive valet parking at the hotel, with a complimentary shuttle to the hot springs.

  • Public Transport

    Local buses regularly depart from the La Fortuna bus terminal to Tabacon Hot Springs. The bus fare is approximately $1.50, and the ride takes about 30 minutes. From the bus stop at the entrance, follow the signs to the hot springs.

Tabacon Hot Springs, located near La Fortuna, Costa Rica, is a world-renowned destination celebrated for its natural thermal waters and stunning rainforest setting. The resort is situated at the base of the Arenal Volcano, which heats the Tabacon River that flows through the property, creating a unique and therapeutic experience. Founded in 1991 by Costa Rican architect Jaime Mikowski, Tabacon was designed to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings. Mikowski reforested pastures, and transformed marshlands to resemble their original state. The resort opened as a day destination in 1993, and now includes 103 luxurious guest rooms and suites. Tabacon aims to be environmentally friendly and has a rating of 5 'leaves' from the Costa Rican Tourism Board. Visitors can explore the property's lush tropical gardens, dine at on-site restaurants, and indulge in spa treatments. The hot springs are open to both day visitors and hotel guests, with various day pass options available. Hotel guests can enjoy exclusive access to the Shangri-La Gardens, an adults-only area with private pools and cabanas.
