Public Transport
To reach the Savegre River using public transportation, begin by taking a bus from San Isidro de El General to La Palma. Buses run frequently throughout the day, with fares typically ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 Costa Rican colones. Upon arrival in La Palma, take a local taxi or shared shuttle to your desired location along the Savegre River. Taxi fares can vary from 5,000 to 10,000 colones, so confirm the fare and destination with the driver beforehand.
Driving
Driving to the Savegre River from San José typically takes around 3-4 hours. The roads leading to the Savegre River can be narrow and winding, especially closer to the destination. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended, especially during the rainy season (May to November). Be prepared for unpaved roads and potential washouts. There are limited services (gas stations, restaurants) along the way, so stock up on supplies before you leave. Parking is generally available near popular access points to the river, but it can be limited during peak season.
