Discover more about Drake Bay Wilderness Resort

Drake Bay Wilderness Resort, established in 1985, is located on the Osa Peninsula, offering a pristine and remote setting while remaining easily accessible from San José. The resort was started by Herbert and Marleny, who were convinced by Marleny's father to purchase the property and establish a hotel. They were among the first tourism pioneers in this remote area. The resort has 20 charming tropical cabins with hot water showers, tile bathrooms, porches, and ceiling fans, all with views of the bay and surrounding rainforest. Tents are also available. Guests can relax in palm-shaded hammocks or swim in the natural saltwater tide pool. The grounds are adorned with exotic flowers, attracting diverse wildlife. Drake Bay is named after Sir Francis Drake, who allegedly anchored here in 1579. The bay is a favorite spot for sailors and acts as a gateway to Corcovado National Park. The resort offers various tours, including guided hikes in Corcovado, snorkeling at Caño Island, mangrove boat tours, and dolphin watching. The resort also boasts a bar with bay views, a saltwater swimming pool, and a restaurant serving American/Costa Rican dishes made with fresh, local ingredients.
