Getting There

Car
If you're driving from the main entrance of Corcovado National Park (Carate), take the road leading to Puerto Jiménez. Once you reach Puerto Jiménez, follow the signs towards Bahia Drake. From Bahia Drake, look for signs directing you to Punta Rio Claro. The refuge is located approximately 30 minutes from Bahia Drake. The road may be unpaved, so ensure your vehicle is suitable for rough terrain.

Public Transportation
From Corcovado National Park, you can take a bus or shuttle from Carate to Puerto Jiménez. Once in Puerto Jiménez, look for a local bus or shared shuttle service that goes to Bahia Drake. The fare for the bus is approximately 2,500 CRC (Costa Rican Colones). Once you arrive in Bahia Drake, you can either hike to Punta Rio Claro (which takes about 30 minutes) or arrange for a taxi, which may cost around 10,000 CRC.

If you're already in Bahia Drake, you can hike to Punta Rio Claro National Wildlife Refuge. Starting from the main beach area in Bahia Drake, follow the coastal path southwards. The hike will take about 30 minutes and offers beautiful views of the ocean and surrounding wildlife. Ensure you have appropriate footwear and supplies, as the trail can be uneven.
