Walking
If you are in the center of Puerto Viejo, start by heading southeast towards the beach. Walk along the main street (Calle 213) until you reach the intersection with the road leading to Playa Chiquita. At this intersection, continue straight on Calle 213 for about 2 kilometers. You will pass several shops and eateries along the way. As you approach the end of the road, look for signs directing you to Refugio Nacional Gandoca-Manzanillo, which will be on your right.

Bicycle
From the center of Puerto Viejo, rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops. Start cycling southeast on Calle 213. Continue straight for approximately 2 kilometers until you reach the intersection that leads to Playa Chiquita. Keep an eye out for directional signs toward Refugio Nacional Gandoca-Manzanillo, which will be on your right side. The ride is mostly flat and offers beautiful scenery along the way.

Public Transportation (Bus)
Locate the bus stop in central Puerto Viejo. Buses to Manzanillo run frequently throughout the day. Board a bus heading to Manzanillo, which should take about 30 minutes. Inform the driver of your destination, Refugio Nacional Gandoca-Manzanillo, and they will let you know when to get off. The bus will drop you off near the entrance of the refuge. From there, it’s just a short walk to the main entrance.
