Car
If you're driving from San José, take the Pan-American Highway (Route 1) towards Liberia. After approximately 4 hours, take the exit for Route 21 towards Santa Cruz. Continue for about 30 minutes until you reach Santa Cruz. From Santa Cruz, take Route 160 towards Junquillal. Follow the signs for Playa Junquillal, and after about 30 minutes, you will arrive at the beach. Be aware that some of the roads leading to the beach may be unpaved, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended.

Public Transportation
To reach Playa Junquillal via public transportation, start at the San José bus terminal (Terminal 7-10). Take a bus to Santa Cruz, which typically costs around $10 and takes about 4-5 hours. Once you arrive in Santa Cruz, you can either take a local taxi directly to Playa Junquillal (approximately $30) or catch a bus towards Huacas and get off at the junction for Junquillal. From there, you may need to walk or arrange a taxi for the final stretch to the beach.

If you prefer a more direct route after arriving in Santa Cruz, you can hire a taxi to Playa Junquillal. Taxis are available outside the bus terminal. Expect to pay around $30-$40 for the ride, which takes about 30 minutes, depending on traffic. It's advisable to agree on the price with the driver before starting your journey.

If you decide to rent a car for your trip, there are several rental agencies at the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia. After picking up your rental car, follow the same directions as if you were driving from San José.
