Discover more about Immeuble Pyramide

The Immeuble Pyramide, located in the heart of Abidjan's Plateau district, is an architectural statement that reflects Côte d'Ivoire's ambitions in the post-colonial era. Designed by Italian architect Rinaldo Olivieri and Ivorian architect Raymond Aka Adjo, and constructed between 1968 and 1973, the building embodies the Brutalist architectural movement, characterized by its geometric structure and exposed concrete. Originally intended as a commercial center, the Pyramide was envisioned as a symbol of a prosperous and economically growing Côte d'Ivoire. Its unique pyramid shape set it apart from other buildings in the area, making it a prominent feature of Abidjan's skyline. The building features 12 stories, three underground levels, and nine elevators. The facades are mostly glass windows, protected by aluminum panels that act as sunshades. Over the years, the Immeuble Pyramide faced economic challenges and was eventually abandoned. In 2015, a fire further damaged the structure. However, recent initiatives have aimed to rehabilitate the building, recognizing its importance as part of Côte d'Ivoire's architectural heritage. As of 2023, the building is undergoing renovation, with plans to transform it into a tourist attraction and a symbol of urban renewal.
