Cathédrale Saint-Paul d'Abidjan is a Roman Catholic cathedral that stands as a testament to modern architecture and religious devotion in Côte d'Ivoire. Designed by Italian architect Aldo Spirito, under the direction of President Félix Houphouët-Boigny, the cathedral was completed in 1985 and has since become a dominant feature of Abidjan's skyline. The cathedral's design is both unique and symbolic. The concrete cross is anchored to the main cathedral using seven cables, creating the illusion that the structure is being pulled towards the Ébrié Lagoon. The exterior features colorful ceramic panels depicting the story of Christ, while the interior boasts six stained-glass windows covering 370 square meters, blending biblical scenes with Ivorian culture. Mosaics of the Sacraments and paintings of the Virtues further embellish the interior. Visitors can climb the 230 steps to the balconies on the outstretched arms of the cross for panoramic views of Abidjan. The cathedral has a total area of 4,300 square meters and can accommodate up to 5,000 people. St. Paul's Cathedral has served as a place of worship and refuge, offering shelter to approximately 1,800 Ivorians during the 2010-2011 Ivorian crisis.
