Getting There

  • Walking

From the center of Hvar town, head towards the main square (Trg Sveta Stjepana). Once you reach the square, look for the waterfront promenade (Riva) and follow it along the coast toward the ferry terminal. This will take you to the harbor area. From the harbor, take a ferry to Split, which typically departs every hour. The ferry ride lasts about an hour and provides beautiful views of the islands. Once you arrive at Split, disembark and follow the signs toward the city center. As you exit the ferry terminal, walk straight ahead and take a left onto Obala Lazareta. Continue straight until you reach the main road, then turn right onto Ulica Domovinskog Rata. Follow this road until you arrive at the Peristil Square (Trg Peristil). The Ancient Split is located at 21000 Trg Peristil BB, in the heart of the Diocletian's Palace.

  • Taxi Boat

From Hvar, make your way to the waterfront area where you can find taxi boats that operate between the islands and Split. Look for the designated taxi boat stand, and tell the operator you want to go to Split. The taxi boat will take you directly to Split's harbor, and the trip usually takes about 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive at the Split harbor, follow the same route as detailed for the ferry: exit the terminal, head straight ahead, turn left onto Obala Lazareta, and then right onto Ulica Domovinskog Rata. Continue until you reach Trg Peristil BB.

  • Guided Tour

Consider booking a guided tour that includes transport from Hvar to Split. Many local tour companies offer day trips that include a ferry ride or a private water taxi. This option is convenient as the guide will handle all logistics, and you can relax and enjoy the journey. Make sure to confirm the meeting point in Hvar, which is usually at the main square or the ferry terminal, and ask about the specifics of the itinerary to ensure you visit the Ancient Split.
