Public Transport

From Dubrovnik, take bus number 12, 15, or 35 from the main bus station to Trsteno. These buses have limited schedules, so check the timetables beforehand. The journey takes approximately 30-45 minutes. The bus stop is located on the main road near the entrance to Trsteno. From there, walk a short distance to the arboretum entrance. A one-way bus ticket costs around €2-€3.

The Trsteno Arboretum, situated in the small village of Trsteno, approximately 20 km northwest of Dubrovnik, is a captivating blend of natural beauty and historical significance. Established in 1492 by the Gučetić-Gozze family, a noble family from Dubrovnik, it stands as the oldest Renaissance garden in Dalmatia. The family's seafarers brought back seeds and plants from their voyages, creating a diverse collection of flora from around the world.The arboretum spans 25 hectares (64 acres) and comprises several distinct areas : a Renaissance garden with a summer house, a neo-romantic garden from the early 20th century, an old olive grove, and natural Mediterranean vegetation. The Renaissance garden features geometric designs with lavender, rosemary, and bougainvillea surrounding a 14th-century stone villa. The villa itself provides a glimpse into the lives of Dubrovnik's elite during the Republic of Ragusa.Visitors can explore the historic aqueduct, a 70-meter structure with 14 arches that once supplied water to the garden's fountain. The Baroque fountain, adorned with a statue of the Roman god Neptune and nymphs, adds a touch of grandeur. The garden is home to a diverse collection of plants, including Japanese banana trees, date palms, magnolias, and various cactus species.In recent years, the Trsteno Arboretum gained fame as a filming location for the popular TV series "Game of Thrones".
