Discover more about Landhuis Bever

Landhuis Bever, located in the southwestern part of Willemstad, Curaçao, stands as a testament to the island's rich colonial history. This heritage building, originally constructed in the 18th century, showcases the traditional Curaçaoan architecture, characterized by its pastel-colored walls and elegant wooden shutters. The landhuis, also known as Buena Vista, is situated on a small hilltop called Wiltschutborgh, offering scenic views. The T-shaped landhuis features a gable roof with four dormers, though the roof only covers the core section. Galleries with lean-to roofs surround the building, and the kitchen has a separate pantry. The east side has a side wing with a tent roof. The house includes a vestibule with a semicircular entrance staircase, bordered by flower beds of IJssel stones and a wooden garden fence between masonry columns.Originally, a small fort stood on Wiltschutborgh hill, later replaced by a wooden house called Buena Vista for two military commanders in the late 17th century. These commanders guarded Curaçao's bays and delivered messages across the island. The landhuis is named after Daniel Beevers, a former owner. The original landhuis remains intact and was partially restored in 2016. Today, Landhuis Bever is an official monument of Curaçao, recognized for its architectural, historical, and cultural significance. While the building is not always open to the public, its exterior and serene gardens offer a picturesque spot for leisurely strolls and photography.
