Discover more about Landhuis Blauw

Landhuis Blauw, located within the Blue Bay Curaçao Golf & Beach Resort, offers a unique blend of history and recreation. Founded around 1700 by Anno Blauw, the plantation originally produced indigo dye, along with cultivating limes and oranges. The name 'Blauw' translates to 'Blue' in Dutch, a nod to the indigo production that once thrived here. According to local tales, the color blue, especially indigo, was believed to ward off evil spirits.Over the centuries, the plantation changed hands several times. For a period, it was known as 'Blije Rust,' meaning 'Happy Rest'. The main house, constructed around 1800, features a T-shaped saddle roof with seven dormers and covered terraces on all sides. In 1800, French pirates plundered and occupied the plantation. In the 1900s, the Jacobs family owned the plantation until they sold it in 1990, after which the resort and golf course were developed.Today, Landhuis Blauw functions as the reception and clubhouse for the Blue Bay resort. While the landhuis and grounds are primarily accessible to resort guests, its well-preserved architecture and historical significance make it a notable landmark. Visitors can experience a tangible connection to Curaçao's past while enjoying the amenities of a modern resort.
