Discover more about Street Art Skalo

Street Art Skalo has transformed the Scharloo Abou neighborhood of Willemstad into a vibrant open-air museum. This area, once characterized by neglect, has been reborn through art, becoming a must-see destination for locals and tourists alike. The project began in 2016 by Street Art Skalo, a group of creatives who envisioned revitalizing the neighborhood by bringing art to the streets. Scharloo Abou has a rich and complex history. Once a thriving residential area for wealthy merchants, it declined in the late 20th century. Many colonial buildings were abandoned, and the area gained a reputation for being unsafe. However, Street Art Skalo saw the potential for transformation, believing art could attract new businesses, residents, and visitors. As you wander through the streets, you'll encounter a kaleidoscope of colors and styles. Intricate stencil works share space with large-scale murals that stretch across entire buildings. The art reflects a range of themes, from Curaçao's African heritage to its colonial past and vibrant present. The murals narrate stories of culture, history, and the enduring spirit of Curaçao. Street Art Skalo worked with local artists, property owners, and residents to create a welcoming and inspiring environment.
