Zambartas Wineries, a beacon of modern Cypriot winemaking, is located in the charming village of Agios Amvrosios, nestled in the hills of the Limassol wine region. Founded in 2006 by Akis Zambartas, a respected figure in Cypriot oenology, the winery has quickly risen to prominence for its dedication to quality, innovation, and the preservation of indigenous grape varieties. Today, under the guidance of Marcos Zambartas, Akis's son, the winery continues to craft exceptional wines that reflect the unique character of the Cypriot terroir. The story of Zambartas Wineries is deeply rooted in a passion for wine and a commitment to showcasing the potential of Cypriot viticulture. Akis Zambartas, with his extensive background in chemistry and oenology, spent years studying and documenting the island's native grape varieties. His work laid the foundation for the winery's focus on varieties like Xynisteri (white) and Maratheftiko (red), which are now celebrated as hallmarks of Cypriot wine. Marcos, who trained in winemaking in Australia, brings a modern perspective to the family business, blending traditional techniques with innovative practices to create wines that are both authentic and world-class. The tasting room offers panoramic views of the vineyards and the Troodos Mountains, providing a stunning backdrop for sampling the winery's acclaimed wines. The winemaking process at Zambartas is a careful balance of art and science. Grapes are hand-harvested to ensure optimal ripeness and quality. In the cellar, traditional methods are combined with modern technology to gently extract the flavors and aromas from the grapes. The wines are aged in French oak barrels, adding complexity and nuance to the final product. Zambartas is also committed to sustainable viticulture, employing practices that minimize environmental impact and promote the health of the vineyards. A visit to Zambartas Wineries typically includes a guided tour of the vineyards and winemaking facilities, followed by a tasting of the winery's signature wines. Knowledgeable staff members share insights into the history of the winery, the winemaking process, and the unique characteristics of each wine. Tastings are often accompanied by local cheeses, olives, and other delicacies, enhancing the overall experience. Zambartas Wineries produces a range of wines, each with its own distinct personality. The Xynisteri is a crisp, refreshing white wine with citrus and floral notes, perfect for pairing with seafood or salads. The Maratheftiko is a rich, full-bodied red wine with dark fruit and spice flavors, ideal for accompanying grilled meats or hearty stews. The winery also produces other interesting wines, including a rosé and several single-vineyard expressions that showcase the diversity of the Cypriot terroir. Beyond the wines themselves, Zambartas Wineries offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes visitors feel like part of the family.
