This composite building complex features stone and adobe masonry structures that evolved between the 14th and 20th centuries, reflecting the diverse cultural influences that have shaped the island over time. The village of Potamiou itself is steeped in history, dating back to medieval times. Its name, derived from the Greek word "potamos" (river), alludes to its location on the west bank of the Chapotami river. During the Frankish occupation, Potamiou served as a royal estate. Later, during the Turkish occupation, it was home to distinguished scholars and priests. Tradition suggests the village may have even served as the headquarters of a bishopric during the Venetian period. Beyond the mansion, Potamiou offers other attractions. A Venetian bridge on the southern side of the village serves as a reminder of the island's Venetian past, once connecting Potamiou with the villages of Vouni and Koilani.
