Troodos Botanical Garden: A Mountain Oasis of Cypriot Flora

The Troodos Botanical Garden, officially named the Troodos Botanical Garden “A.G. Leventis,” is a captivating destination located within the Troodos National Forest Park in Cyprus, near the village of Pano Amiantos. Situated at an altitude of 1,400 meters, the garden provides a unique opportunity to explore the island's diverse flora while enjoying breathtaking mountain scenery. Established in 2004, the garden aims to protect, preserve, and promote the flora species of Cyprus, with a focus on the Troodos region.The garden is divided into thematic sections, including Endemic Plants, Riverine Vegetation, Arboretum, and Aromatic and Traditional Garden Plants. Visitors can learn about common, rare, and endangered flora found in the park. The Endemic Plants section promotes the unique flora of the area, while the Riverine Vegetation area features native and foreign species around two ponds. The Arboretum displays a variety of trees, and the Aromatic and Traditional Garden Plants section showcases plants used in home remedies and cooking.The garden also plays a role in the ecological restoration of the former Amiantos asbestos mine. Visitors can explore the visitor center, herbarium, and educational yard. The visitor center offers information, leaflets, maps, documentaries, and specialized books. The herbarium allows visitors to study fresh and dry plant samples. The educational yard supports outdoor activities and provides a resting area.
