Zambartas Wineries, located in the village of Agios Amvrosios, is a testament to Cyprus's rich winemaking heritage. Founded in 2006 by Akis Zambartas, a pioneer in Cypriot oenology, the winery has quickly gained recognition for its commitment to quality, sustainable practices, and the preservation of indigenous grape varieties. The Zambartas family's winemaking history dates back to the 1970s. Akis Zambartas studied chemistry and oenology in France and later played a key role in revitalizing local grape varieties. His son, Marcos, studied oenology in Australia and returned to Cyprus with a vision to create wines that showcase the unique flavors of Cyprus. Today, Marcos and his wife Marleen manage the winery. The winery is located in the Krasochoria (wine villages) of Limassol, an area known for its long history of viticulture. The village of Agios Amvrosios is set at an altitude of 800 meters, providing ideal growing conditions for viticulture. The Mediterranean climate offers ample sunshine, while the cooler mountain air tempers the heat, allowing grapes to ripen slowly and develop complex flavors. The soil, composed of limestone and clay, adds depth and structure to the wines. Zambartas Wineries champions the indigenous grape varieties of Cyprus, including Xynisteri and Maratheftiko. Xynisteri, a white grape, produces wines with refreshing acidity and notes of citrus and stone fruits. Maratheftiko, a red variety, offers bold tannins, deep color, and flavors of blackberries and spices. The winery also works with international varieties like Shiraz, Mourvèdre, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Zambartas wines have received numerous international awards. Visitors can explore the vineyards, tour the cellars, and sample a range of wines.
