History of Machairas Mountains

Machairas Monastery, one of Cyprus's most significant religious sites, was founded in the 12th century. According to legend, two hermits, Neophytos and Ignatios, discovered a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, believed to have been painted by St. Luke and hidden in a cave.
