National Struggle Museum: A Chronicle of Cypriot Independence

Located near the Holy Archbishopric of Cyprus in Nicosia, the National Struggle Museum is dedicated to preserving the memory of Cyprus's fight for independence, with a focus on the 1955–1959 National Liberation Struggle against British colonial rule. The museum's collection includes weapons, official documents, photographs, propaganda materials, and personal belongings of the fighters, providing a comprehensive look at the era. The museum was founded in 1961, two years after the end of the liberation campaign, by EOKA fighter Christodoulos Papachrysostomou. In 2001, it moved to a new, purpose-built facility funded by the Holy Archbishopric of Cyprus and the Ministry of Education and Culture. The museum serves as a historical repository and a modern educational center, aiming to educate future generations about Cyprus's path to self-determination. Visitors can explore exhibits showcasing the historical context of the struggle, including photographs of demonstrations and British soldiers. Multimedia installations and a 25-minute documentary vividly narrate the liberation movement. The museum also features a bookstore where visitors can purchase books and memorabilia related to the period.
